Natural ways to whiten your teeth
There are so many teeth whitening options out there on the market today, from strips to gel. However, you need to be careful. Some products may not be safe for your teeth, and you might end up damaging your teeth over time rather than whitening them. Don’t worry, though – there are many natural methods you can use to whiten your teeth too. These methods will give you a brighter smile without compromising your oral health. Here are some natural methods of whitening your teeth to help you feel more confident!
Quit Those Bad Habits
Preventive measures should be taken to ensure you don’t have serious stains to combat in the first place. Quitting those bad habits sooner, rather than later is a good idea. Cut down on things like coffee and tea, as they can leave the teeth with unsightly stains. If you smoke cigarettes, quitting those ASAP is good not just for your teeth, but your overall health. Eating a poor diet can contribute too. Your diet should consist of foods that are good for strengthening teeth, such as mushrooms, sweet potatoes, celery, almonds, leafy veggies, and free range eggs.
Chew Sugar Free Gum After Eating/Drinking
After you’ve eaten a meal or had a drink, it’s a good idea to chew sugar free gum to clean the teeth and mouth. It isn’t realistic to brush your teeth after every single meal, so have a pack of gum on hand instead.
Baking Soda And Hydrogen Peroxide
Hydrogen peroxide is an antibacterial bleaching agent. Although it is not completely natural, a 3% solution can help to whiten your teeth and won’t damage them. Many whitening kits contain this ingredient but in higher, potentially dangerous amounts. It’ll also help to keep the mouth free of germs, and by mixing with a small amount of baking soda to form a paste, you will help to rid the teeth of plaque while whitening them. Make sure the paste is runny as if it is too gritty it’ll rub the enamel off your teeth – and this doesn’t grow back. Spend 30 seconds rubbing this paste onto your teeth before rinsing it off. Be gentle. Baking soda helps to create an alkaline environment in the mouth, which in turn stops bacteria from growing there.
If you’d prefer, you can also mix the baking soda with a little water. Many whitening toothpastes contain baking soda, and they have been proven to be more effective than those that don’t contain it.
Apple Cider Vinegar
This can make an effective teeth and gum cleaner, as it is a natural antibiotic and can remove stains from the teeth. Studies have shown that ACV can even remove dark stains on the teeth, some say better than commercial whiteners. However, as it is acidic, you should avoid using this every day. It can soften the teeth over time, so make sure you don’t use it too often. You should also dilute with water before swilling for only a few minutes. Don’t allow it to be in contact with your teeth for too long. When you’re done rinsing, rinse with regular water. This is to ensure the acid isn’t sitting on your teeth ready to soften them.
Coconut Oil Pulling
Coconut oil has been somewhat of a buzz product the last few years. You can use it for just about anything. It has many different uses, and one of them is whitening teeth. You can buy kits, or you can simply use a regular tub from the supermarket. Some people just like to apply the oil to the teeth after brushing, but swilling it around the mouth can get much better results. Not only does the oil whiten the teeth, it also helps to kill bad bacteria and make your mouth far healthier overall. Simple place a small amount in your mouth, and let it soften before swilling and pushing it around, making sure it gets into every part of your mouth. You need to do this for around 5-20 minutes to see results. It can be difficult to do it for a long time at first, so you might want to build yourself up. This is one of the most natural, safe ways to whiten your teeth out there with absolutely no side effects and proven results. Many consider it a preventive therapy that helps to maintain oral hygiene too.
You can brush your teeth as normal after oil pulling, but there’s no need to rinse.
It looks as if coconut oil isn’t the new, fashionable kid on the block anymore. Activated charcoal has taken its place as the trendiest, natural way to whiten teeth at the moment. This method is so effective as it absorbs plaque and other bad stuff, stopping it from damaging and staining the teeth. It helps to change the PH of the mouth, making it immediately healthier and healthier over time. All you need to do is dip your toothbrush in powdered activated charcoal, and then brush your teeth as you usually would. There are other natural methods out there that aren’t as reliable as the methods listed here, as they haven’t been proven and tested properly. However, some claim that strawberry paste works for them, and others like to rub fruit peels on their teeth. Natural methods are always going to be the best way to whiten your teeth and keep your mouth healthy at the same time.
